How do you get back at it after taking time off?

My summer has been filled with many good things - travel, expanding friendships, good books, parties, and openings and closings of all sorts. And yet...

No matter where you are stuck or overwhelmed, how does remembering that getting back at it support your optimal health?

When things start moving quickly or slow way down, it is easy to let the behaviors that support my optimal health slide. For me, optimal health mandates regular exercise and cooking healthy meals at home.

It is easier (and way more fun, honestly) to get deep into emails from clients and friends than it is to go for my 7:00 a.m. run. And it is way easier (and usually a lot more fun) to go out for dinner than it is to make dinners at home. Summer is a natural time for me to let things slide...

When I pay attention, however, I can hear the insistent, wise voice inside of me say "It's good to have a break and it's also good to get back to what you know feels right. It's time, get back at it."

I have a choice - I can ignore that voice. Or I can listen. It always feels better if I listen.

For me, getting back at it starts with baby steps. Instead of reinventing the wheel, I go back to what works - 1) running at 7:00 a.m., 2) then going directly to my meditation cushion.

That is my scaffolding and after I put it back in place, everything flows more easily. I create energy by getting back to what I know works for me.

99% of the challenge is getting started.

What does getting back at it look like for you?

Cutting down on the number of nights you drink wine? Creating space to express gratitude to others? Finding the regular time for self-reflection so that you approach your life proactively, rather than reactively? Getting on top of your finances? Turning towards the difficult decision you have been avoiding? Learning how to have difficult conversations?

It looks different for everyone and having an accountability partner helps. Reach out to me when you are ready to get back at it. I can help you unwind the complex barriers that are getting in your way and together we can create a pathway to stick with what works.

When I remember that it is within my control to get back at it, whenever I am ready, it feels super healthy. I bet it will feel super healthy to you, too.
