How does your view of "choice" affect your ability to fully step into your life?

How we frame the world determines what we see... Choice? Or Not-A-Choice?

If you were to list all of the things you do each day, how many of them would appear on your "choice" list and how many would appear on a "not-a-choice" list?

Brushing your teeth?

Deciding how to spend your day?

Choosing a new career?

How do your decide what goes where? And does that affect your ability to greet the day with enthusiasm and vitality?

Columbia Business School Professor Sheena Iyengar's research illustrates that how we see the world plays a large role in how our lives play out. If choice is viewed as a good thing, options can be enlivening. If, however, choice is viewed as a burden, too many options can shut us down.

As an example, she states that if someone says "I am stuck in a terrible job", they are likely to stay in that job for the rest of of their lives.

If they say "I don't like my job right now, but today I'm going to look for a new one", they are much more likely to do just that.

How does your view of "choice" affect your ability to fully step into your life?
