What keeps you from eating foods that support your healthiest you?
This steel-cut oatmeal brand is ultra gluten-free, kosher, quick cook and half the cost of the other brands!
Steel-cut oatmeal is healthy on so many levels… it’s made from chopped oat kernels and has a low glycemic index, which keeps you feeling full longer, without annoying blood sugar spikes. That matters for the many of us who are dealing with insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. Steel-cut oatmeal is also a drug-free way to help lower cholesterol.
I hear uncertainty from people who suffer from IBS and other gut disorders about which brands contain gluten. While steel-cut oats are naturally gluten free, they can be cross-contaminated during production.
Consumerlabs.com is the leading provider of independent test results to help consumers and medical professionals identify the best quality health and nutrition products and they are my go-to source for product comparisons. They tested four steel-cut oat brands: Bob’s Red Mill, McCann’s Quick & Easy, McCann’s Steel Cut, and Trader Joe’s Quick Cook for amount of ochratoxin A (a fungal toxin often found on grains), heavy metals, and gluten.
All the brand tested well, but Trader Joe’s was the clear winner as the only Ultra Gluten-free brand and at only 15 cents a serving, less than half of what the other brands cost.
